Hypnotherapy

As part of Fit Minds & Bodies Clinic service we offer Hypnotherapy to help you with your treatment.

Find below some regular questions we have been asked about Hypnotherapy.

What is Hypnotherapy?

Your unconscious mind stores all of your habits, memories, beliefs, emotions and fears.

Your unconscious mind is the centre of healing for your mind and body, as well as the release of brain and body hormones and chemicals.

Your unconscious is the true powerhouse of your existence and controls 90% of your life as it is the filter by which you attend consciously and unconsciously to information, in your environment.

The best analogy is the iceberg . . .

Your conscious mind is the 10% of the iceberg that you can see above the surface and the unconscious is the remaining 90% of the iceberg that lies beneath the surface unseen.

Hypnosis, also known as Hypnotherapy, is a guided therapeutic process, by a professional, who communicates directly with your unconscious mind.

Hypnosis allows your conscious mind to rest, allowing your unconscious mind to come to the forefront and be communicated with.

Hypnotherapy, is a voluntary state in that, you control the depth of hypnosis, and any information that is attended to or ignored. This is known as the ‘hidden observer’ as it is part of your mind that stays alert to everything that is going on around you, and ensures that you are safe at all times.

Hypnotherapy can help you change perception of, reduce or eliminate:

  • Unhealthy and/or intrusive memories;
  • Negative thought patterns;
  • Negative emotions;
  • Unhelpful emotional coping styles;
  • Negative belief systems, and
  • Behaviours.

Hypnosis is a state of mind and body relaxation that can vary in intensity or depth, from mild to deep.

It is a state in which you feel a sense of body and mind calmness, slowness and relaxation. However, you still maintain the sensations of awareness and alertness.

Why Hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy can be a very powerful tool to heal both the mind and body.

Hypnotherapy can safely and effectively decrease or eliminate years of physical, mental and emotional pain, in a very short time compared to cognitive (conscious) therapies.

Positive and healthy beliefs can replace unhealthy beliefs held throughout a lifetime, in just a few sessions. Many of the common reasons why Hypnosis is sought include:

  • Weight loss;
  • Stress reduction;
  • Elimination of phobias;
  • Improvements in insomnia;
  • Resolution of addictions;
  • Improvements in performance;
  • Physical and emotional pain healing;
  • Reduction of anxiety and panic attacks;
  • Elimination of posttraumatic stress, and
  • Lifestyle issues and disease improvement.

For optimal therapeutic outcomes you need to:

  • Trust the therapist 100%;
  • Know that your ‘hidden observer’ is always looking out for you;
  • Be ready and willing to change, and
  • Proactively partake in positive conscious, emotional and behavioural changes and practices daily.

What is the Difference Between Hypnosis and Hypnotherapy?

A hypnotherapy consultation is a hypnosis session with guidance from a consultant. If you were hypnotised without guidance, this would just be hypnosis.

Is Hypnotherapy a Form of Mind Control?

Hypnosis differs from meditation as it does not ask you to empty the mind of all thoughts.

The process does not ask you to control your mind, but rather helps you to change and release outdated information and patterns, in your unconscious, that are sabotaging your life.

You will always be in control under hypnosis.

You choose what you want to change and release and what you are ready to let go of.

Are There Any Negative Side Effects from Hypnotherapy?

Some people have reported experiencing vivid dreams after hypnotherapy.

This is a natural side effect, and is a part of your brain continuing to heal and rewire itself for positive change.

I Have a Friend of a Friend That Does Hypnotherapy. . .

Hypnosis has been deregulated in most Australian states.

What this means is that anyone can do a weekend course in Hypnosis and then practice.

When seeking out a therapeutic Hypnosis practitioner, make sure they are:

  • Trained in Clinical Hypnosis;
  • Registered with a recognised association e.g. Australian Society of Hypnosis, The Australian Society of Clinical Hypnotherapists;
  • A state registered Psychologist, Counsellor, Medical Practitioner, Occupational Therapist, or Social Worker, and
  • Offering a variety of therapeutic processes to help you improve your lifestyle – Cognitive and Emotional.

Will Hypnotherapy Work for Me?

Results will vary from person to person.

The main thing is to remember that the buck stops with you!

Real change happens between therapy sessions not during.

People or circumstances can influence your life but you are the only one who can implement positive changes in your life!
