COVID-19: Telehealth (Online) Psychology Consultations?

Updated March 2021

All Consultations will remain online until 30th June, 2021

Updated October 2020

We are ONLY Providing Online Consultations Until Further Notice.

The reason for this decision is due to Kellee and all of her close family members being in the vulnerable category due to chronic illness and/or age. All consultations will be provided via Video conferencing. If you are uncertain about how this process works, you can simply contact us to discuss it further.

Most clients have found online consultations to be no less effective in helping them connect, build rapport and reach their desired outcomes.

Private Health & Medicare

Both Private Health & Medicare provide you with options to obtain Psychological care and rebates under telehealth or online video conferencing:

  • If you have Private Health – Psychology Extras you can use this to obtain your rebates (you will need to find out how much you receive back);
  • Medicare – Mental Health Care Plan, or
  • Medicare – Eating Disorders Care Plan.

It is the experience and what you put in to each moment that maximises the outcome of either online or face-to-face consultations. Is your mindset or barriers getting in the way of you having an optimal experience, or enabling you to obtain the support you need?

COVID-19: What happens to Your Psychology Consultations?

Updated 08/04/2020

We are moving towards Online Consultations.

Private Health

We are lucky that we already have a process for you to attend online appointments. We use Zoom to facilitate Video Consultations.

If you have Private Health – Psychology Extras we ask that you move your Consultations to our Video Consultation option.

Medicare

To obtain Medicare rebates for Telehealth (video) Consultations, you will need to have an existing MENTAL HEALTH CARE PLAN, with sessions still accessible, to use this.

For example, if you have a plan for 6 sessions but you have already used 5, you will only have 1 session left. Therefore, unless you obtain a new plan, you will not be able to access Medicare after the 6th session.

Therefore, please make sure that you have your plan up to date, if you want to access Medicare.

N.B. If you do not have a Mental Health Care Plan please contact us and we will help you find out if you are eligible.

The Government had previously mandated that bulk billing occur for anyone who fitted the following criteria however, this has now been lifted:

  • A person who is a concessional beneficiary
  • A person who is under the age of 16
  • A person who is ‘more vulnerable’ to COVID-19 virus

A patient more vulnerable to COVID-19 virus means a person who:

  • Is required to self-isolate or self-quarantine in accordance with guidance issued by the Australian Health Protection Principal Committee in relation to COVID-19; or
  • Is at least 70 years old; or
  • If the person identifies as being of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent—is at least 50 years old; or
  • Is pregnant; or
  • Is the parent of a child aged under 12 months; or
  • Is being treated for a chronic health condition; or
  • Is immune compromised; or
  • Meets the current national triage protocol criteria for suspected COVID-19 infection.
